Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Inpatient Coder to join our team. As an Inpatient Coder, you will play a vital role in accurately coding and abstracting patient medical records for reimbursement and quality reporting purposes. This position requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines and regulations, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.   1. Accurately code and abstract patient medical records in compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
  2. Ensure timely and efficient coding of inpatient records for reimbursement and quality reporting purposes.
  3. Review physician documentation to identify and assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered.
  4. Collaborate with medical providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve documentation and coding issues.
  5. Maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity in coding and abstracting patient records.
  6. Stay up-to-date on changes in coding guidelines and regulations to ensure compliance.
  7. Adhere to all confidentiality and privacy regulations while handling patient medical information.
  8. Work with billing and finance departments to resolve coding-related issues and discrepancies.
  9. Utilize electronic health record systems and coding software to accurately code patient records.
  10. Communicate with medical staff and healthcare professionals to clarify coding and documentation questions.
  11. Provide education and training to medical staff on coding and documentation best practices.
  12. Collaborate with the healthcare team to improve coding processes and ensure accurate reimbursement.
  13. Maintain accurate and organized records of coded data and coding-related activities.
  14. Meet productivity and accuracy standards set by the organization.
  15. Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  16. Maintain a customer service-oriented approach when interacting with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  17. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of coding and healthcare regulations.
  18. Keep abreast of industry trends and changes in coding practices.
  19. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures and follow coding and documentation standards.
  20. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of coding-related policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (Ccs) Credential From Ahima

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Inpatient Coding

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Icd-10-Cm And Cpt Coding Guidelines

  • Familiarity With Electronic Health Record Systems, Specifically Epic

  • Ability To Work Independently And Meet Productivity And Quality Standards Set By Bjc Healthcare.
