- Accurately and efficiently process tissue samples according to established protocols and procedures
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and calibration
- Prepare and maintain reagents and solutions used in tissue processing
- Perform routine and specialized staining techniques to highlight specific tissue components
- Embed tissue samples in paraffin blocks for sectioning
- Cut tissue sections using a microtome and mount on slides for further analysis
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate results
- Document and report any issues or discrepancies in sample processing
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities
- Stay updated on industry developments and advancements in histotechnology techniques
- Train and mentor new histotechnicians as needed
- Adhere to all relevant legal and ethical standards in the handling and processing of patient samples
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or A Related Field: A Histotechnician At Bjc Healthcare Should Have A Strong Educational Background In Histotechnology Or A Related Field To Ensure They Possess The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Job Effectively.
Certification As A Histotechnician (Ht): Bjc Healthcare Requires Histotechnicians To Be Certified By The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) As A Histotechnician (Ht) To Ensure They Are Trained And Competent In The Field.
Experience In Histology Laboratory Procedures: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience Working In A Histology Laboratory, With Proficiency In Various Histology Laboratory Procedures, Including Tissue Processing, Embedding, And Staining.
Knowledge Of Laboratory Safety Protocols: Histotechnicians At Bjc Healthcare Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Laboratory Safety Protocols And Be Able To Handle Hazardous Materials And Chemicals Safely.
Attention To Detail And Accuracy: Histotechnicians Play A Critical Role In The Accurate Diagnosis Of Diseases And Disorders, And As Such, They Must Possess Excellent Attention To Detail And Be Highly Accurate In Their Work. This Includes The Ability To Identify And Troubleshoot Any Issues That May Arise During The Histology Process.
