Job Description

  1. Develop and implement child life programs and activities for pediatric patients to promote coping, emotional support, and normal growth and development.
  2. Provide emotional support and education to patients and families about medical procedures, treatments, and hospitalization.
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to address the specific needs of each patient.
  4. Conduct individual and group sessions with patients and families to assess and address their emotional, social, and developmental needs.
  5. Utilize play, art, and other therapeutic techniques to help patients express their feelings and cope with their illness or injury.
  6. Work closely with families to provide education and support during their child's hospitalization and after discharge.
  7. Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, progress, and treatment plans.
  8. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and meetings to provide input and support for patients.
  9. Remain up-to-date on current practices and research in the field of child life and incorporate this knowledge into daily practice.
  10. Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure effective communication and understanding of the child's needs.
  11. Advocate for the emotional and developmental needs of pediatric patients within the healthcare system.
  12. Participate in hospital events and initiatives to promote child life services and support for patients and families.
  13. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, following infection control and safety protocols.
  14. Adhere to ethical and professional standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality.
  15. Collaborate with community organizations and resources to provide additional support and services for patients and families.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or A Related Field.

  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Through The Child Life Council.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Children, Preferably In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Strong Understanding Of Child Development, Family Systems, And The Impact Of Illness And Hospitalization On Children And Families.

  • Excellent Communication, Organizational, And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Collaborate Effectively With Interdisciplinary Teams And Work With Diverse Populations.
