Job Description

BJC HealthCare is seeking a dedicated Child Life Specialist to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of young patients. As a Child Life Specialist, you will have the opportunity to use your skills and expertise to support children and families during their hospital experience. We are looking for a highly motivated and empathetic individual with a Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field. Join us in providing exceptional care and support to our young patients and their families.

  1. Provide emotional and psychological support to pediatric patients and their families during their hospital stay.
  2. Utilize child life techniques and interventions to assist children in coping with medical procedures and hospitalization.
  3. Create and implement age-appropriate play and activities to promote normalization and reduce stress for pediatric patients.
  4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop individualized treatment plans for pediatric patients.
  5. Educate and prepare pediatric patients for medical procedures and treatments using developmentally appropriate language and methods.
  6. Assess and address the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families, and provide appropriate referrals as needed.
  7. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of interventions, assessments, and progress.
  8. Advocate for the needs and rights of pediatric patients, and ensure their voices are heard in the healthcare setting.
  9. Stay current on best practices and advancements in the field of child life and incorporate them into daily practice.
  10. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and team meetings to provide updates on pediatric patients and contribute to treatment planning.
  11. Collaborate with community resources and organizations to provide additional support and resources for pediatric patients and their families.
  12. Foster a safe and welcoming environment for pediatric patients and their families, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  13. Act as a liaison between pediatric patients, families, and healthcare team to promote effective communication and understanding.
  14. Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of child life.
  15. Comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to child life services.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or Related Field.

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Credential Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals (Aclp).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Pediatric Patients In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Demonstrated Knowledge And Application Of Child Life Techniques And Interventions.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Healthcare Team.
