Job Description

Then BayCare Health System is looking for you to join our team as a Histologist!As a Histologist, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by preparing and examining tissue samples under a microscope. You will work closely with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely results for patient care.To excel in this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Histology or a related field and be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).   1. Prepare and examine tissue samples under a microscope to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  2. Work closely with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely results for patient care.
  3. Perform various laboratory techniques, including tissue embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  4. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  5. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all tests performed.
  6. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  7. Continuously monitor and troubleshoot any issues with laboratory equipment or procedures.
  8. Keep up-to-date with new laboratory techniques and technologies.
  9. Collaborate with team members to improve processes and protocols.
  10. Complete all assigned tasks within designated timelines.
  11. Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  12. Train and mentor new Histotechnologists as needed.
  13. Adhere to all ethical and professional standards in the laboratory.
  14. Attend educational workshops and conferences to stay current in the field.
  15. Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and patients.
  16. Uphold the values and mission of BayCare Health System.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Biology, Chemistry, Or Related Field: A Histologist At Baycare Health System Must Have A Strong Foundation In The Sciences, Particularly In Biology And Chemistry, In Order To Understand The Complex Processes Involved In Tissue Preparation And Analysis.

  • Certification As A Histotechnician (Ht) Or Histotechnologist (Htl): Baycare Health System Requires Histologists To Be Certified By The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) As Either An Ht Or Htl. This Certification Demonstrates A High Level Of Competence And Expertise In The Field Of Histology.

  • Experience In Tissue Preparation And Staining Techniques: The Histologist Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Or Research Setting, With A Strong Understanding Of Tissue Preparation Techniques And Various Staining Methods.

  • Knowledge Of Laboratory Safety Protocols And Quality Control Procedures: Working In A Laboratory Setting Requires Strict Adherence To Safety Protocols And Quality Control Measures. The Histologist Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of These Procedures And Be Able To Apply Them Accurately And Consistently.

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Ability To Work Independently: Histology Is A Highly Precise And Detail-Oriented Field, And The Histologist Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Accurately Prepare And Analyze Tissue Samples. Additionally, They Must Be Able To Work Independently And Manage Multiple Tasks Efficiently.
