  1. Properly store and distribute donated blood to hospitals and medical facilities.
  2. Follow strict protocols and guidelines for handling and processing blood products.
  3. Monitor and maintain inventory of blood products to ensure adequate supply and proper rotation.
  4. Ensure compliance with all quality and safety standards set by the American Red Cross and regulatory agencies.
  5. Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in blood storage and distribution.
  6. Prepare blood products for transport and delivery to medical facilities.
  7. Perform quality control checks on blood products to ensure accuracy and safety.
  8. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all blood products received, stored, and distributed.
  9. Respond quickly and efficiently to any emergency situations or requests for blood products.
  10. Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient operation of blood storage and distribution processes.
  11. Provide excellent customer service to blood donors and medical facilities.
  12. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current on industry standards and best practices.
  13. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the American Red Cross.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure the safety and integrity of blood products.
  15. Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and protect the privacy of blood donors and recipients.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree In Medical Technology Or A Related Field: A Degree In Medical Technology Or A Related Field Provides A Solid Foundation In Laboratory Techniques, Blood Banking Procedures, And Quality Control Measures Necessary For The Role Of A Blood Storage And Distribution Technician.

  • Certification In Blood Banking: Certification From A Recognized Agency Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The American Medical Technologists (Amt) Is Often Required For This Position. This Certification Demonstrates A Thorough Understanding And Proficiency In Blood Banking Procedures And Regulations.

  • Strong Attention To Detail: Blood Storage And Distribution Technicians Must Be Meticulous In Their Work To Ensure Accuracy And Safety In Handling And Storing Blood Products. Attention To Detail Is Crucial To Prevent Errors And Maintain The Integrity Of The Blood Supply.

  • Knowledge Of Fda Regulations And Quality Assurance: Blood Storage And Distribution Technicians Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Fda Regulations And Quality Assurance Standards For Blood Products. This Includes Knowledge Of Proper Labeling, Storage, And Transportation Procedures.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Blood Storage And Distribution Technician, You Will Work Closely With A Team Of Healthcare Professionals, Donors, And Recipients. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Effectively Communicating And Collaborating With Others In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment.
