Legal Counsel

We are looking for an experienced and talented Legal Counsel to join the American Express legal team. We are a company with a history of thought leadership and a commitment to transforming the payments industry, and we need an individual who can help us continue to drive innovation and progress. The ideal candidate for this role should have a Juris Doctor degree, excellent legal research and drafting skills, and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. They should also have a strong understanding of compliance, contract law, and litigation. Responsibilities: • Develop and maintain legal strategies, policies, and procedures that align with American Express’s mission and objectives • Research and analyze legal issues in a variety of areas, including contract law, compliance, and litigation • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents • Advise business teams on legal matters, including risk assessment and contract management • Monitor changes in applicable laws and regulations and provide guidance accordingly • Prepare and present reports on legal matters and related topics • Represent American Express in legal proceedings, including court hearings and arbitrations • Manage external legal counsel, as needed • Keep abreast of industry developments and trends, and provide strategic counsel to senior management
