  1. Conducting comprehensive sleep studies: The Polysomnographic Technologist will be responsible for performing various sleep tests, including overnight polysomnograms, multiple sleep latency tests, and maintenance of wakefulness tests.
  2. Preparing patients for sleep studies: This role will require preparing patients for sleep studies, which may include explaining the procedure, attaching electrodes and other sensors, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the study.
  3. Monitoring patients during sleep studies: The Polysomnographic Technologist will be responsible for monitoring patients during sleep studies, including recording and analyzing physiological data such as brain waves, heart rate, and oxygen levels.
  4. Identifying and troubleshooting technical issues: The Technologist will be expected to identify and resolve any technical issues that may arise during sleep studies, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.
  5. Collaborating with healthcare team: This role will require working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely results of sleep studies and assist with developing treatment plans for patients.
  6. Maintaining equipment and supplies: The Technologist will be responsible for maintaining and calibrating sleep study equipment, ensuring that supplies are well-stocked, and reporting any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel.
  7. Educating patients and families: The Polysomnographic Technologist will be responsible for educating patients and their families about sleep disorders, the purpose of sleep studies, and any necessary lifestyle changes or treatment options.
  8. Maintaining accurate records: This role will require maintaining detailed and accurate records of sleep study results, patient information, and equipment maintenance logs in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  9. Adhering to safety protocols: The Technologist will be expected to follow all safety protocols and infection control measures to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification: A Polysomnographic Technologist At Allina Health System Should Possess A Current Certification From The Board Of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (Brpt).

  • Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience In Conducting Sleep Studies And Interpreting Results In A Clinical Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Sleep Disorders: A Thorough Understanding Of Various Sleep Disorders, Their Causes, And Treatment Options Is Essential For This Role.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient In Operating And Troubleshooting Polysomnography Equipment, As Well As Using Computer Software For Data Analysis And Report Generation.

  • Communication And Teamwork: Strong Communication Skills And The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Team Of Healthcare Professionals Is Crucial For The Success Of This Role.
