  1. Develop and implement patent prosecution strategies for the protection of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products and technologies.
  2. Conduct comprehensive patent searches and analyses to assess the potential risks and opportunities for AbbVie's products.
  3. Work closely with internal teams, including R&D, marketing, and business development, to identify and secure patent protection for new products and technologies.
  4. Draft and prosecute patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other global patent offices.
  5. Review and analyze patents of competitors to identify potential infringement risks and develop defensive strategies.
  6. Provide legal guidance and support to cross-functional teams on patent-related matters, including licensing, collaborations, and acquisitions.
  7. Collaborate with outside counsel on patent litigation matters, including infringement and validity disputes.
  8. Stay current with changes in patent laws and regulations, and provide training to internal teams on relevant updates.
  9. Manage patent portfolios, including maintenance of existing patents and identification of opportunities for new patent applications.
  10. Communicate complex legal concepts and strategies in a clear and concise manner to non-legal stakeholders.
  11. Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures related to patent prosecution.
  12. Represent AbbVie in patent-related proceedings, such as appeals and oppositions.
  13. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the legal team.
  14. Collaborate with other legal team members to identify and mitigate legal risks for the company.
  15. Maintain accurate and organized records of all patent-related activities.
  16. Adhere to ethical and professional standards while representing AbbVie in all patent-related matters.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School With A Focus On Patent Law.

  • Admission To The Uspto And A Minimum Of 8 Years Of Experience In Patent Prosecution.

  • Strong Understanding Of Global Patent Laws And Procedures.

  • Proven Track Record Of Successfully Drafting And Prosecuting Patent Applications In The Pharmaceutical Or Biotech Industry.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Collaborate With Internal And External Stakeholders.
