- Conduct thorough research and analysis of patent and trademark laws to determine the strength and validity of AbbVie's intellectual property portfolio.
- Develop and implement strategies for obtaining and protecting patents and trademarks in various jurisdictions.
- Draft and prosecute patent applications, including conducting inventor interviews and responding to office actions.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including scientists and business leaders, to identify and evaluate potential inventions for patent protection.
- Conduct due diligence reviews of potential patent acquisitions and provide legal opinions on patentability and infringement risks.
- Monitor and enforce AbbVie's intellectual property rights, including preparing and responding to cease and desist letters and infringement lawsuits.
- Manage outside counsel and provide guidance and support on patent-related matters.
- Stay abreast of changes in patent laws and regulations and provide recommendations for adapting AbbVie's IP strategies accordingly.
- Conduct IP training and education for employees to increase awareness and understanding of intellectual property rights.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all patent-related activities and communicate updates to senior management as needed.
Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.
Admission To Practice Before The United States Patent And Trademark Office (Uspto).
Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Patent Prosecution, Preferably In The Pharmaceutical Or Biotechnology Industry.
Strong Understanding Of Patent Law, Including Us And International Patent Laws, Regulations, And Procedures.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively With Cross-Functional Teams And External Stakeholders.
