Pismo Beach is a city on California's Central Coast. It's known for its wineries and many beaches. The Monarch Butterfly Grove shelters monarch butterflies that migrate to Pismo State Beach in the cooler months. Atop a rugged bluff, Dinosaur Caves Park has trails with ocean views and a playground. Other green spaces include Chumash Park, with its wetlands, and Margo Dodd Park, on a bluff.

In the council-manager form of government, the city council members are elected by the citizens. The members can be elected by districts, at large or in some combination of the two. The city council adopts and amends local ordinances within the boundaries of state law and the city’s founding document usually called the city charter. Most have some kind of central council, elected by the voters, and an executive officer, assisted by various department heads, to manage the city's affairs.
