  1. Provide compassionate and high-quality care to new mothers and their babies in the Labor & Delivery unit.
  2. Utilize nursing skills and knowledge to assess, plan, and implement care for patients and their families.
  3. Monitor and document the physical, emotional, and social well-being of patients and promptly report any changes or concerns to the appropriate healthcare team members.
  4. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients based on their specific needs and conditions.
  5. Effectively communicate with patients, families, and colleagues to provide education, support, and guidance throughout the labor and delivery process.
  6. Advocate for patients and their families to ensure their needs are met and their voices are heard.
  7. Use critical thinking skills to anticipate and respond to potential complications during labor and delivery.
  8. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and monitor patients' responses to them.
  9. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care and progress in electronic medical records.
  10. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.
  11. Participate in ongoing professional development and training to continually enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
  12. Embrace and uphold the values and mission of Sutter Health in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Is Typically Required For A Staff Nurse, Labor & Delivery Position At Sutter Health. This Education Provides A Strong Foundation In Nursing Theory And Practice, Preparing Individuals For The Complex And Specialized Care Required In Labor And Delivery.

  • Active Rn License: All Candidates Must Possess A Valid And Current Rn License In The State Where They Will Be Working. This Ensures That The Individual Has Met The Requirements For Licensure And Is Able To Practice Nursing In A Safe And Effective Manner.

  • Certification In Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (Rnc-Ob): Sutter Health Values Nurses Who Have Obtained Specialized Certification In Their Field. This Certification Demonstrates A Nurse's Knowledge And Expertise In Labor And Delivery Care, And Can Help To Set Them Apart From Other Applicants.

  • Previous Labor And Delivery Experience: While Not Always Required, Previous Experience In A Labor And Delivery Setting Is Highly Valued By Sutter Health. This Experience Helps To Ensure That The Nurse Is Familiar With The Unique Challenges And Responsibilities Of This Specialized Area Of Nursing.

  • Strong Communication And Critical Thinking Skills: Labor And Delivery Nurses Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Families, And Other Healthcare Providers. They Must Also Possess Strong Critical Thinking Skills, As They Are Often Required To Make Quick Decisions In High-Stress Situations. These Skills Are Essential For Providing Safe And High-Quality Care To Laboring Mothers And Their Babies.
