M&T Bank is looking for an experienced Associate General Counsel to join our team and provide legal counsel and advice to our Bank. This position requires an individual who is a creative and strategic thinker with a passion for providing the highest level of service to our customers and colleagues. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, have a keen eye for detail and a proven ability to solve problems.To be successful in this role, the Associate General Counsel should hold a Juris Doctor degree and be licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland. We are also looking for at least five years of experience as a practicing attorney in the financial services industry, with a strong background in banking regulations, corporate governance, contracts, and litigation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to M&T Bank in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Analyze legal issues and provide sound recommendations on strategies to pursue.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and other legal documents.
- Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation.
- Monitor and advise on changes to relevant laws and regulations.
- Research and stay up-to-date on legal developments affecting the bank.
- Provide guidance and training to other bank personnel on legal matters.
- Maintain records of all legal documents and correspondence.
- Represent the bank in meetings with external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
