
Police Officer (Lateral/P.O.S.T. Certified)

- Uphold Campus Safety and Security: The primary responsibility of the Police Officer will be to maintain a safe and secure environment on campus for students, staff, and faculty. This includes conducting regular patrols, responding to emergency calls, and enforcing campus policies and regulations.
- Protect Campus Community: The Police Officer will be responsible for responding to and investigating all incidents and crimes that occur on campus. This includes conducting thorough investigations, collecting evidence, and making arrests when necessary to ensure the safety of the campus community.
- Enforce Laws and Regulations: The Police Officer will be responsible for enforcing all federal, state, and local laws, as well as campus regulations. This includes traffic laws, alcohol and drug policies, and any other laws or regulations that pertain to the campus community.
- Provide Emergency Response: In the event of an emergency or crisis situation, the Police Officer will be responsible for responding quickly and effectively. This may include coordinating with other emergency response agencies, providing first aid, and ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
- Serve as a Liaison: The Police Officer will serve as a liaison between the campus community and local law enforcement agencies. This may include sharing information, collaborating on investigations, and fostering a positive relationship between the campus and local law enforcement.
- Conduct Community Outreach: The Police Officer will be responsible for conducting community outreach programs to promote safety and security on campus. This may include organizing safety workshops, participating in campus events, and providing educational materials to the campus community.
- Maintain Accurate Records: The Police Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all incidents, investigations, and arrests. This includes completing detailed reports, documenting evidence, and ensuring all records are kept in compliance with departmental and legal standards.
- Attend Trainings and Meetings: The Police Officer will be expected to attend regular trainings and meetings to stay updated on departmental policies, procedures, and best practices. This may also include attending external trainings to enhance skills
Must Possess A Valid California P.o.s.t. Basic Certificate: Candidates Must Have Completed A California Peace Officer Standards And Training (P.o.s.t.) Certified Training Program And Hold A Valid Basic Certificate.
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Full-Time Experience As A Sworn Peace Officer: This Position Requires At Least 3 Years Of Experience As A Sworn Peace Officer, Preferably In A University Or College Setting.
Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice Or Related Field: A Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice, Criminology, Or A Related Field Is Preferred For This Position. A Combination Of Relevant Education And Experience May Be Considered.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Police Officers At Csu San Marcos Must Possess Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Interact Effectively With Students, Faculty, Staff, And The Community.
Ability To Pass A Comprehensive Background Investigation: Candidates Must Pass A Thorough Background Investigation, Which Includes A Criminal History Check, Driving Record Review, And Reference Checks. A History Of Disciplinary Actions Or Criminal Convictions May Disqualify A Candidate From Consideration.
